1.
We open in on a country divided, one half drenched in Water, the other covered in vast Desert. In this life of turmoil a Crook waits in the dark waiting for a package. A means to find a "Friend" forgotten. Closing in on a young man working in the desert caverns, we start our journey....
2.
Sam's Theme 04:03
Sam was callous towards the desert he grew up in, he worked hard in the mines every day waiting for his chance to buy a sky-vessel and see the world. He never seemed to trust anyone but himself, and unfortunately he never could keep a friend. It was important to focus on working fast however, you never knew if bandits were hiding inside waiting for a chance to strike....
3.
Upon leaving the mines and heading home, Sam saw a young woman being attacked by the local raiders. They thought it would be an easy score, but they didn't count on Sam still having his drill and steam hammer still with him...
4.
Triss' Theme 03:06
Her name was Triss. A courier from other side of the country, she thanked Sam's help for dispatching the bandits (even though she said she had everything under control). She asked Sam, "could show me the way to The Last Stop?", a bar where her package was to be delivered. Sam's first instinct was to say no and head back home, but as he looked in her eyes he could see that there was something sincere about her request, and reluctantly, he agreed to help her. So they loaded into his sand-skimmer and set out...
5.
The nights in the desert were incredibly windy, this let certain brave individuals use "Sand Skimmers" (thin boats with grooved edges and large sails) to traverse the Sea of Sand and cross vast distances. This particular evening was filled with stars and the blue light of the moon, covering the desert in a glow Triss had never seen. "I've never knew seen anything like this! Your home is beautiful, Sam!" Sam responded "Yes it has it's moments" He saw the wonder in her eyes and felt maybe she was different from the world he had become accustomed to, but it didn't matter, soon the package would be delivered and she'd have to go, once again leaving him alone.
6.
They had arrived, "The Last Stop" had it's halls full and the sound of the band was growing louder as they stepped in. Triss and Sam looked all over but couldn't seem to find who the package belonged to. After what seemed like hours had passed, Sam and Triss sat down and decided to have a drink to celebrate their failure. After the band stopped playing and most people had left, a lone man from the corner of the bar came to their table. He called himself 'Crook" told Triss that he was the man she was looking for. He wanted the bar to empty before taking his package. As Triss was about to give it, she realized the package had started to tear and as she put it on the table to examine... it tore completely and revealed itself to be a mirror of pure Silver.
7.
As Crook stared into the Mirror, he saw his face slowly decay into rotting flesh. The mirror split in two and a black opaque liquid started seeping from the cracks. "Stand back" Crook said, motioning to Sam and Triss. The room sank into darkness and the mirror was completely submerged in the mysterious substance. "I thank you for the delivery, young lady. But you need to leave now" Crook warned. "Long ago I was a hit-man that could never be caught, and I used this mirror to help me. The spirit inside would change my face every time I killed, but I sold it to a merchant far away when it made me kill someone I loved. In time I had hoped to forget this pain, but the face it gave me is a constant reminder of my misdeeds, and I knew I had to get it back to put my evil to rest once and for all."
8.
The Pool manifested into a large figure. Towering over Crook it spoke, "How long has it been, my friend? 10? 20 years since we last conspired? I know you wish for my power again, the delight of anonymity, no fear of payment for your crimes. Let us become partners once more... Or I fear you'll have more than selling me to pay for.." Crook, with a solemn face, removed his hat and drew his sword. Pointed towards the Fiend before him, Crook whispered "Let's end this" The Fiend replied "After I'm finished with you, your little friends here are next" And the Battle ensued.
9.
Arid Escape 02:49
The Fiend burst through the large doors of The Last Stop as Sam, Triss and Crook ran towards the Skimmer to escape. The wind picked up, and they were off. The vast desert before them became covered in black as the Fiend gave chase. As Sam navigated, Crook was fending off the legions of figures conjured by The Malevolent Fiend. He knew that the Fiend would kill them all if he didn't do something fast. Crook jumped from the skimmer, Sam drifted to a stop and shouted "What are you doing?!" Crook called to the Fiend "I'll take your offer! If you spare these two innocents." The Fiend gathered all of itself into one spot in front of Crook, and after a moment leaned in and said "You WERE always terrible at bargains" And at that moment, a long needle struck through the heart of Crook. Triss ran from the speeder to give her aid...
10.
The Fiend had succeeded, Crook had breathed his last. Triss was overcome with fear and grief. "He had always been too soft" growled the Fiend. "His soft heart was his downfall" "But You (as He motioned to Sam) You seem to have the uncharitable spirit I long for, I can bring you anything you desire, women, riches, the death of every single person who ever wronged you, and no one will ever know" "Just stare into the Mirror" The Fiend manifested the mirror in his hands and offered it to Sam. Sam held the mirror and chuckled "...You know, I've always wanted this. To escape this dry wasteland and become a legend across this world, but this day has shown me that I knew too little about this life. I had grown indifferent to an "uncaring" world because I was the uncaring one. But Triss shows me that there's something else I've missed" The Fiend, confused said "I pegged you for the wrong man, but I guess it was worth a shot..." And as the Fiend lifted up his needle to strike Sam down, Sam laughed "Sorry to break your expectations". He revealed his steam hammer and shattered the mirror into pieces. The Fiend, writhing and vulnerable, Split itself into hundreds of shadows that gathered together in a circle around Sam and Triss. And as Sam helped Triss on her feet, He picked up Crook's sword, pointed it, and shouted "Now let's REALLY end this!"
11.
The army of Shadows beset them. They fought with courage and valor to finish Crook's last request of destroying this evil. As the night continued, Sam and Triss couldn't see an end to this battle. It seemed hopeless. The Shadows just kept coming no matter how many Sam and Triss destroyed. The army covered them like a massive wave. They were defeated. but.. as they drew their last breaths in the sea of sand now drowned in darkness, the Moon peaked out from the clouds and shone on the gem of Crook's sword. This reflection made the Fiend see it's own face and it was horrified. The army of shadows receded, slinking back towards the shattered pieces of the mirror, desperately trying to put it back together. Sam realized the way he could destroy the Fiend. He took his Drill, covered it in oil, and set the sand ablaze, crystallizing the ground into massive shards of reflection. The Fiend, overwrought with terror let out a massive screech and disintegrated into dust...
12.
As the Moon slowly faded from sight on the eve of a new day, Sam and Triss were exhausted. "I'll say this" said Triss, hair disheveled and lying in the skimmer "This was the most interesting delivery I've made in the past 5 years" Sam Laughed. They sat next to each other as the Wind died down and the Sun gleamed across the horizon. "I've never met someone like you" said Sam. "Your spirit gives me hope that maybe there's more to this life than I've known. My only hope in life was to buy a Sky Vessel and travel to somewhere new, but I know I can't brave it alone." "I knew that cold exterior would fade!" Giggled Triss. Sam blushed. "W-well I'm not THAT bad am I? "No" Triss Smiled. "I get the feeling you're asking me to join you? I guess having an extra set of hands to fend off bandits and help with my packages would be nice..." Sam, exasperated yet happy, agreed. He couldn't but feel this girl was something special. And as they set off in the Skimmer, Triss went to the helm and pointed forwards, gleefully letting the sand whip her hair back. Sam didn't know where they were headed, but he knew at least... He wouldn't get there alone. TO BE CONTINUED...
